About:

While violence directed at another person is always unlawful, when it is directed at those closest to us, distinct laws apply, falling under the category of “domestic violence” offenses. California’s domestic violence statutes provide for the protection of victims of domestic abuse and govern the prosecution and punishment of those convicted of domestic violence criminal offenses. The Domestic Violence Prevention Act (the “Act”) is codified under California’s Family Code beginning with Section 6200. Under the Act, domestic violence is an act of violence directed at persons with a statutorily defined relationship to the offender. The law defines the following as those protected under the Domestic Violence Prevention Act: a spouse or former spouse, a person with whom the abuser is or was a cohabitant, a person with whom the abuser is (or was) dating or to whom the abuser is (or was) engaged, a family member to the second degree, and/or a person with whom the abuser has had a child. While we typically think of domestic violence as physical or sexual abuse, it can also include certain types of psychological abuse. Psychological abuse occurs when the abuser causes the other person to fear that he or she is in immediate danger. Such acts include stalking, harassing by any means, or destroying the victim’s property.

"I strongly recommend Bill Weinberg as an attorney. He is very dedicated and truly made a difference in our lives. Without him, my son wouldn’t be here with us today. We are incredibly thankful for everything Bill did, our family is forever grateful for his support and determination."

"I highly recommend Bill Weinberg, He helped me and my family get my brother out of a long sentence and was super hardworking and open with us about the case! My brother owes his freedom to Bill, he’d still be in jail otherwise."

"I am completely speechless about Bill, ever since the first day I spoke to him I felt I was in good hands. Was able to sleep for the first time in days right after. My case wasn’t easy and he kept me calm every step of the way. I’m glad I went with Bill. The process was long but kept me out of jail. My Family and I are extremely thankful for Bill & Cathy for always answering my questions even if they weren’t important, and for all the support they’ve gave us through out the entire case. I hope to never need criminal help in the future but if I do I will be calling Bill Weinberg."

"I highly recommend Bill Weinberg. He is transparent, honest, and hard working. I am a teacher, and last year I was arrested for suspicion of DUI although I had not been drinking or taking illegal/illicit drugs. I was working three jobs and overtired. I was stressing and getting from one job to another but drove too tired. I drove badly and dangerously which I will never do again. When I got to my work, I parked and noticed someone had followed me. Then the police showed up. I was given a sobriety test and failed the physical part because I was too tired. I had no alcohol or other drugs in my system with the exception of my anti seizure medication. I made a bad decision. I went to jail and was released on my own recognizance. I was terrified. I could have lost everything, so I began calling attorneys. The first several attorneys I called made promises I knew they couldn't keep or they said they were taking it right to trial which I knew would be a gamble. I have been on the victims end of the justice system so I know that going to trial just not always guarantee justice. Then I called Bill. He was honest with possible outcomes and what everything would cost. He broke his fees down to manageable amounts, and he worked diligently for me and got my case DISMISSED!!! He is awesome, and I look forward to working with him again next year to have this arrest VOIDED!!"
