About:
The unknown is a scary place for any individual, especially for a person whose family is undergoing a significant transition through divorce, a child custody dispute, a domestic violence situation, or even a hopeful adoption. Although I cannot tell you exactly what course your situation will take, I can help you navigate the legal system while addressing each concern and question. I strive to educate my clients about the law so they can make informed decisions about what is most precious in their lives. Whether you are a business owner employing multiple individuals and supplying income for even more family members or maybe you are a parent of two precious little ones, I work to find effective solutions that bring you through these tumultuous times. I focus my legal work on helping families because I was there. At one time, I was a young witness to violence within my home and a naive child attempting to help my mother endure her own divorce. It is hard. And as I witness through my clients each and every day, there does not exist one solution that will fix every family dispute, divorce, or custody battle. Instead I work tirelessly with my clients to find the best solution for them in light of the legal realities that apply to their situation. I will push for settlement if desired; however I have no hesitation in aggressively pursuing resolution within the courts by utilizing the tools the law has to offer.

"I can confidently and honestly say that Modern Legal and their dedicated attorneys are some of the best in the industry. They truly care and give back to the community, even when they were smaller and just starting out. Their dedication to family law is admirable and unwavering. I would never hesitate to refer any friends or family to Modern Legal without a second thought."

"Save yourself the time and money and choose a different firm. I had issues drafting my prenup with this firm. There were errors that they made that were not in my favor after I provided a clear outline of what I wanted. They billed me to fix/edit. They refused to reimburse me because I had already paid the bill even though Theresa agreed that I shouldn’t have been billed for this. They refused to finish my case if I didn’t take down my initial google review. We had my husband’s lawyers with Sodoma law finish the prenup so it didn't make sense to hire someone new at that point. Theresa and Oliva did meet with me to go over some questions I had after this happened so I felt things were reconciled and I gave them a second chance. The second experience did not go any better. They charged me over 1k to file a special warranty deed. I clarified multiple times what they thought the final price would be (not drafting alone) and it was 5x that. It's was a templated two paged document. I caught a mistake after Olivia drafted the document and Theresa reviewed it. Additionally, Theresa reviewed the billing and considered it "fair." They charged $200 for someone to go physically file the deed because they haven't invested in a third party vendor for e-filing, which is industry standard. They pass the cost on to their clients instead due to being a small law firm. My husband and I had a great experience with Sodoma law and I would highly recommend using a bigger firm. Of note, Theresa did offer to have a phone meeting, however based on her email response and our last meeting regarding similar issues, I didn’t feel it was worth my time. I just wanted to part ways with the firm asap."

"I was always a client of Sodoma law. However, my most recent attorney, Theresa Viera from Sodoma opened her own firm, Modern Legal, so I chose to have them represent me out of pure convenience. Poor decision on my part. I was told Deborah Dilman would be a great fit for me, but unfortunately she was the complete opposite. Not only did she give me WRONG advice, she had a very poor "bedside manner" and lacked compassion and empathy. When I asked Deborah to get a date on the court calendar her answer continually was, "you can not. Only the moving party can." I found out later by another attorney that she was incorrect. After making this mistake known to the owner of the firm, I was told "that she was sorry and it was going to be a teaching moment." This mistake led to a poor outcome. And that teaching moment was on my dime. Deborah also made me feel like she did not believe me or have my back. She was not an advocate for me. I can go on and on and wish I could have avoided this review, but I really want others to learn from my poor choice in firms - hoping I can save someone else from being let down financially and emotionally during such a difficult time. An attorney should be held accountable for mistakes, be an advocate for their client, provide correct legal advice, believe and support their client and handle their clients with care. I received ZERO of this and couldn't be more disappointed. Also, I asked numerous times for some financial reimbursement and after spending over 15k with Deb at Modern Legal, I was offered $265 for a credit for their mistakes and poor representation. Insane and insulting. Sodoma Law all the way for anyone going through a family legal matter. They may cost more, but they do their due diligence and will have your back."
