About:
Tana Benner is an attorney and founder of Benner Law. She has worked exclusively in family law matters for more than a decade. She started her legal career by serving as the court-appointed guardian ad litem in child order-of-protection cases, many involving cases of abuse and neglect. From this experience, she gained an uncommon perspective on the legal issues involving children and the importance of compassionate legal guidance. From this beginning, Benner has grown her practice to encompass a wide set of legal challenges families face. She focuses especially on adoption law, custody cases, and guardian ad litem work. She represents parents and children in cases of divorce, custody modification, child support, and guardianship cases in probate court. In law school, Benner was a member of the Missouri Environmental Law & Policy Review and was published in the journal for her note, "Waving Good-Bye to Environmental Laws." She was selected to participate in the Family Violence Clinic at the University of Missouri where she represented victims of domestic violence under the supervision of Professor Mary M. Beck. Currently, she is a member of the Missouri Bar, the Boone County Bar Association, the American Bar Association, Women's Network through the Columbia Chamber of Commerce, and Emerging Professionals in Columbia. She lives in Columbia with her husband, Nicholas, and their son, Cohen.

"I hired Tana as my lawyer for my custody modification case. During the initial consultation Tana made me feel relieved and that she would handle my case in the most professional manner. That was not the case. I will say that the communication was poor, but I wouldn't say nonexistent, most of that was done with Claire, Tana legal secretary. On our first day of court Tana did not inform me that she was coming to court on Zoom. I felt unprepared and foolish that I had no idea when/where my lawyer would show up when the judge asked where my representation was. On the second time that we went to court, Tana showed up late and dismissed her tardiness very lackadaisical. Tana did not speak up during that court appearance for what her client actually wanted and, seemed extremely unprepared for the days' worth of court. When I confronted Tana about these concerns, I was told if I did not like her services, I could seek council somewhere else. That is exactly what I ended up doing. I ended up hiring a lawyer in Jefferson City, Mo. who actually came prepared for court and ended up winning me full custody of my kids. Claire, Tana legal secretary does great and, should be appreciated at a much more reputable firm. I would not hire Tana to defend my dog, let alone continue on my case once I figured out how unprofessional she was. After discontinuing my services with Tana, Tana billed me for an additional $300.00. Tana is very much a smoke and mirrors lawyer. Tana makes you feel that she values your case at first, then actually shows she does not care, and you are just another dollar in her pocket. I would not recommend her to anyone if I could have given her negative stars that is what I would've done. The only reason I gave her one is because google made me. I guess the one start would be awarded for Claire, the legal secretary and the work that she put into my case. Just like many of Tana's others reviews I am sure this will not be her fault or, that she handled the case to the best of her ability. Tardiness and lack of communication or not representing what the client wants must be the best of her ability. I know it was not due to poor communication on my part or lack of information, as I am very detail oriented and would expect that from a lawyer charging as much as she did. Like I said before I would not recommend her to anyone and quite frankly in my opinion Tana needs to look at different avenues of careers."

"Amazing experience! My wife and I had to get a will drawn up and were unsure of how to go about it. We were also a bit nervous but Tana made us feel very taken care of! She answered our questions without confusing us and made us feel secure. The will was done within a lunch break. Claire was also quick with setting up our appointment and getting the paperwork done on time. Tana and Claire were amazing to work with, they are both professional and kind! Would recommend! Also, the office is really pleasent to be in. It might seem silly to think it as a plus but the office made us feel calm. It isn't a stuffy office and we appreciated it!"

"Wow! No communication, no ACTION. In my opinion, not worth a dime. Dragged feet, doesn't return calls. and comes back 7 months later with a response. Par for the course. Just loo at the replies to her other reviews. Always someone else's fault."
