Russell graduated from the University of Michigan in 2000 with an undergraduate degree in economics. In 2000 Russell attended the Indiana University School of Law, graduating in 2003 with a Juris Doctrorate degree. Russell began his legal career working at the Berrien County Prosecutor’s Office in Michigan. Upon arriving in Colorado, he worked as a Deputy District Attorney with the Arapahoe County D.A.’s office. During his time with Arapahoe County, he handled DUIs, domestic violence cases, assaults, thefts, and a variety of misdemeanor trials. He left the D.A.’s office in 2001 to join the law firm of Fossum, Mastro, Barnes & Stazzone, P.C., where he exclusively focused on criminal defense. Russell has successfully defended individuals charged with offenses ranging from traffic violations and DUIs to 1st degree murder and vehicular assault, as well as numerous drug cases. Russell has a proven track record protecting the rights of those accused of crimes, and he is ready to put his skill, knowledge and trial experience to work for you. Russell is admitted to the Colorado State Bar as well as being licensed to practice in Federal Court. Russell is active in the defense community and is a member in good standing of the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar and the National College of DUI Defense.

"Russell recently represented me in a second DUI offense case. This was an incredibly serious legal situation I found myself in, and I knew that the repercussions were going to be significantly harsher than the outcome of my first offense. After reading several reviews from Russell’s practice I reached out to him, which happened to be on a Sunday. Almost immediately after I had left him a message he returned my call in which he listened to the incident and began discussing options. The following day I reached back out and told him I would like for him to represent me. Russell went to work immediately, and carefully explained everything I needed to do to start the process. From there he was always in contact with me, letting me know everything that he was handling on his end and communicating what he needed from me. The entire process leading up to my sentencing I had a weight lifted off my shoulders knowing I was being represented by someone incredibly intelligent and who knows the system inside and out. Russell was always available if I ever had any questions and is very straightforward in his communication. Russell is thorough with examining every piece of evidence and leaves no stone unturned in order to help his clients. After months of waiting for test results, the odds were not in my favor, and I was absolutely prepared for the worst. Russell discussed Everything with Me and during my second court appearance he was able to get me the absolute best possible deal with the D.A. I was shocked and could not believe the offer I was being handed but I could not be happier with my sentencing and Russell’s representation of me. Russell is confident, extremely professional, and very knowledgeable and I do not think I would have had even close to the same outcome working with another lawyer. I cannot recommend Russell enough for any criminal defense case. He truly is the best at what he does and in addition to his incredible professionalism, he’s a great person.
