About:

Matt Powell an experienced and aggressive litigator who has dedicated his entire career to protecting clients. He joined Payne, Powell, Truitt & Chandler after a distinguished tenure as the elected Criminal District Attorney for Lubbock County, Texas. During his time as District Attorney, he advocated for thousands of victims, serving as their voice when they could not speak for themselves. As a prosecutor, Matt conducted over 300 jury trials, which included approximately 60 murder cases and 17 capital murder cases, and he maintained a perfect record in felony cases. In addition to criminal cases, Matt served as the chief counsel for Lubbock County, managing all civil lawsuits, contracts, and other legal matters concerning the county. His cases and professional activities have been highlighted on several television programs, including NBC Dateline, ABC 20/20, 48 Hours, Forensic Files, Investigative Discovery, Solved, and Crime Watch Daily. In recognition of Matt's work in protecting clients, he has received numerous awards such as The State Bar of Texas Prosecutor of the Year, The Association against Sexual Assaults Harry Cottle Justice Award, and the MADD Prosecutor of the Year. Matt is deeply committed to community service, volunteering his time with organizations like the Lubbock Area United Way, University Medical Center Foundation, Make-A-Wish, Family Guidance and Outreach, and the Children's Advocacy Center. Matt has also served as adjunct professor at the Texas Tech School of Law and Wayland University, and as a lecturer for various legal institutions including the American and International Law Institute, the United States Marine Corps Judge Advocate Division and the National District Attorney's Association.
