MARQUIS D. JONES, JR. (Former Superior Court Judge) Prior to joining the Weinberger Law Group, as Of Counsel, Marquis D. Jones, Jr. served as a Superior Court Judge (Family Part) in the State of New Jersey, Ocean County, Toms River, from January of 2008 to January of 2015. He presided over and rendered decisions in all areas of Family Law including but not limited to: • Authored many comprehensive opinions in child abuse and neglect cases; • Rendered thousands of domestic violence opinions after trial; • Decided countless post judgement motions for child custody issues; and • Conferred with government agencies such as the Department of Child Protection and Permanency to reach positive results for families. He was designated the lead Children in Court Judge in Family Court presiding over child abuse and neglect matters. Judge Jones presided over countless divorce, child custody matters, non-dissolution and juvenile cases. He has mediated and settled significant matrimonial related matters. While a member of the Superior Court Judiciary, Judge Jones also sat in the Civil Court division presiding over landlord tenant, small claims, special civil courts, and law division motions. Prior to ascending to the bench, Mr. Jones was First Assistant Corporation Counsel/Acting Corporation Counsel, in Newark’s Law Department under the Honorable Cory A. Booker, Mayor, from July 1, 2006 to January 2008. There he managed, supervised and oversaw the Law Department sections comprised of the civil litigation, tax, real estate, municipal prosecutors, workers’ compensation, contracts and collections, and labor sections. He jointly worked with Corporation Counsel and reported directly to the Mayor, Business Administrator, and Chief of Staff? served as counsel to the Mayor and the Municipal Council? managed and oversaw all matters handled by outside counsel? Maintained the Law Department's budget? Managed and oversaw the Law Department's administrative matters.
