About:
I was born and raised on the family farm near Lafleche, Saskatchewan. Dad was a farmer and community leader, mom was a teacher and farm wife extraordinaire. Five siblings. Graduated from Lafleche Central High School in 1972, Bachelor of Arts from the University of Regina in 1976 and Law Degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 1979. Started out in 1982 with a general small-town law practice in Stettler, Alberta doing a bit of everything: real estate, corporate, matrimonial, wills and estates, surface rights, personal injury, as well as criminal law. Moved to Red Deer in the early 1990s and have been doing more and more criminal defence work ever since. Criminal defence work has always been my passion, I think because it can be a way for one person to make a difference to the way things work in our society, as well as help people in trouble along the way. Acting as defence counsel has also allowed me to be a bit of a thorn in the side of “the establishment” which has always appealed to me. I have never acted as a prosecutor and never will (not that there’s anything wrong with that).
