"I hired Darby Hertz after being served unexpectedly by my ex husband who was trying to gain custody of my child in family court after he abandoned him as an infant. My son is the most important thing in my life and I was so fearful of what could happen. Darby was responsive, professional, knowledgeable, warm and reassuring. I had paid for a consult with another well regarded attorney and he had told me we would not be able to file a motion to dismiss. Darby prioritized my wishes and what was best for me and was willing to try even if it might not be granted. She was confident and realistic so I knew what to expect. During the months leading up to the hearing, my ex did many things to create chaos and problems for my son. Darby was the voice of reassurance and reason. She gave sound advice and encouragement. She prepared diligently and had me prepared for the hearing and all possible outcomes. During the hearing, the opposing attorney presented arguments that Darby was easily able to argue and dismantle. She was confident, prepared, brilliant and assertive. She did not back down and stood up for me with every allegation launched by my ex. The judge decided to dismiss the petition which is exactly the best possible outcome for my son and I.
