About:
Geoffrey Puryear is a sixth generation Texan and his family has called Texas home for more than 150 years. He was born right here in Lubbock. He graduated cum laude with a degree in Public Administration from Texas State University in 2004. He came back to Lubbock for law school, graduating from Texas Tech University School of Law in 2007. While in law school, Geoffrey balanced traveling on the school‘s criminal law mock trial team with clerking for Matt Powell, then the elected Lubbock District Attorney. Since then, he has devoted his legal career to developing the skills to obtain outstanding results in courtrooms, trying dozens and dozens of trials in front of judges and juries as a misdemeanor and felony prosecutor in the Central Texas area. In 2012, Governor Rick Perry appointed Geoffrey to a State Board charged with providing counsel and expertise to the Office of the Governor on Criminal Justice issues. In November, 2019, Governor Greg Abbott appointed him to the 460th District Court, a newly created felony criminal court in Austin. Since concluding his service as a District Judge, Geoffrey had a strong desire to return to his hometown and provide outstanding counsel and results to citizens accused here in the Lubbock and South Plains area.

"I've been to that legal aid place twice both times I was there I was told by somebody behind the desk that they cannot help me get my daughter back they did not even look at the custody papers I have or the child's birth certificate they told me that since another party came to the legally before me that they can't help I do not understand that like why should that matter if another party came before me now I am the one that has full custody of my daughter damn why a person can't look at some papers what is so hard about that Legal aid does not help at all they pick and choose who they're going to help the places that I went to of legal aid are called Family Legal Servi And legal aid of West Texas I would recommend that anybody that is trying to get their child back not to go to Legal Aid because if you're not dressed a certain way or if another party went there before you they're not going to help you they don't care about the child make you out to be the bad person when really they all they need to do is look at the papers which is not that hard"

"I went there to get some help on paper that I wanted to get looked over. There old paper I got from my divorce and child support and want to ask questions. The lady told me to write my info down and everything. She left to the room next over. She told the lady in the office I was there to get some help and she ask what did I need help with and and the secretary took idk she complaining about her ex-husband with child support. And I'm just sitting there I can hear everything. She closes the door and said she'll be with me in a few. I told the secretary I had to go I dropped of the papers and never went back. If someone going to talk bad about someone do it in private, it rude and disrespectful. I got my feeling hurt. So I have never went back it's been 2 years"

"Avoid Legal Aid – Especially If You’re a Single Mom! I had a terrible experience with Legal Aid and attorney McDonald. From the very start, she never even got my name correct on official documents, which showed a complete lack of attention to detail. Communication was a nightmare—I could never speak to her directly. Every time I called, I had to go through the receptionist, who would relay messages to her, and then she would email me instead of just taking my calls. During mediation, she told me not to bring up the domestic violence in my marriage because, according to her, “the judge doesn’t care.” That was beyond disappointing and completely unacceptable. Instead of fighting for me and my daughter, she pushed me into making a decision just to get things over with because she was too lazy to do her job. I felt completely unsupported during one of the most important moments of my life. If you are a single mom going through a divorce, DO NOT choose Legal Aid. You deserve an attorney who actually cares and will fight for you, and unfortunately, that was not my experience at all."
